Hi,

I have been working for a period in a Viral agency seeding.

what's was normal at the agency I was with , was that you would
1. do the campaign video
2. put it on sites that doesn't change the format with a "tracking code in it" ( this means that you couldn't track the video on youtube etc)
3. track the video performing in different country.. if the traffic was low you would use your commercial deals that you signed up with big viral players - such as stupidvideos.com - metacafe.co.uk etc..

the viral industry doesn't see blogs or youtube as a part of their strategy - which is one of the reason viral agencies sucks - they totally steer away from anything that has a voice and just get the traffic -

completely old school if you ask me - even though viral seeding is seen as something new and innovative.. it's still stuffing products and commercials down people's throats..

ohh - and if the video gets low ranking - they make pseudo videos that looks like " they have been made by teenagers" to make it spread more.. it's pretty sick and it's really wrapping the viewer in a spiderweb - and I am infuriated by that..

I know that this is not all viral agencies that does this - but they have to go to extreme measures to actually get the traffic going - if the video is crap and not spreading very well...

that's also the reason why I call this Viral Lala Land.. because it has nothing - absolutely nothing to do with the web as of today.. it's simply dealing with eyeballs.
